We are in the Parish of St. Gregory’s
Our parish priest is Fr. Keith Walker
St. Oswald’s Primary School has close links with St. Oswald’s Church and the people of the parish. Staff and pupils attend St. Oswald’s Church.
We believe it is very important that there are strong links between home, school and parish to support the children in their faith journey. The closeness of the Parish Church to the school means that the children can walk to Church to take part in services, and that visits can easily be arranged to enhance the children’s understanding of the role the Church plays in our everyday school life. Members of the parish are part of our school’s Governing Board and parishioners are currently planning an after school club. Children from our school have helped tidy the church grounds.
Father Keith, the parish priest, comes into school to talk to the children and to find out about their learning.
The school is committed to raising money for good causes and regularly supports charities such a CAFOD and Mission Together. In December 2023 the CAFOD Club made Christmas cards for elderly residents in our parish community.
60th Anniversary Celebrations 1964 – 2024
In 1964, St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School opened its doors to its first pupils. We began our week long celebration by inviting past pupils and staff to attend a Celebration of the Word led by Father Keith. Our choir performed a medley of 1960s songs and our visitors enjoyed a beautifully prepared buffet and a tour of our school.
The following week, each day, we invited parents and families to join us for a cup of tea and biscuit as they watched their child’s class perform a song from the 1960s.
Our week of celebrations finished with a 1960s themed day. Our children and staff dressed up in 1960s themed outfits, from Neil Armstrong to a Lego figure, and the children took part in 1960s themed activities. This was followed by our Summer Fayre.
