Catholic Social Teaching – Solidarity
Today we chose to explore the Catholic Social Teaching value of Solidarity. We used our participation sheet to create discussions of what this is, then wrote a prayer asking God to help those in need. We decided to go to our prayer garden to reflect and share our wonderful prayers.

Healthy Minds
Ashley from Healthy Minds visited year six yesterday to discuss transition. We talked about how moving on can be worrying and how we can help ourselves to cope with these changes.

Mathematics
We enjoyed a very practical maths lesson recently. The children discovered how units of measure have changed over many years, they discovered that hands were used to measure many years ago. Each group was asked to measure their hand and arm span and thought about the relation between the two.

Quidditch
We enjoyed a visit from Enrich Education today, the sports leaders taught the children how to play Quidditch. The children were split into house groups and competed to earn the Quidditch Cup. The children were highly enegaged in this activity as there was fierce competition. The overall winners were Aiden house-well done!

Faith In Action
The year six children are planning theri final piece for their Faith In Action award. Some have chosen to create collages, power points or stain glass window effects pictures.

Class Celebration of the Word
For our class celebration of the word this week, the children chose the theme of transition. We gathered in the prayer garden and listened to John 14:25-31, this scripture reminded us that the Holy Spirit will guide us when moving on. The children asked all the children in the class to write a prayer asking God for guidance and strength in the coming months. We also used bubbles to remind us of the wonderful memories we have had at St. Oswald’s.

Road Safety
In readiness for our transition to our new senior schools the children in year 6 have been learning about road safety and being out and about in the community. They discussed their route to school and awareness of dangers that exist in our environment.

Catholic Social Teaching- Stewardship
We discussed the meaning of “Stewardship”. We quickly recognised the part of the word steward and know that we are stewards of the world that God has created for us. We are responsible for looking after the world and keeping everyone and everything thing in it safe. We thought of our own freeze frames to show this.

Catholic Social Teaching- Participation
We also discussed the meaning of “Participation”. We thought about how the word means to tkae part in an action, then discussed how we can do this in our world. The Catholic Social Teaching principle of Participation shows that we have a duty to participate fully in our society.
