Collective Worship, Prayer and Liturgy in St. Oswald’s Catholic Primary celebrate God’s presence in our lives. It is concerned with giving glory, honour, praise and thanks to God. It is our loving response, in word and action, to God’s invitation to enter into relationship, made possible through the work of Jesus Christ and the witness of the Holy Spirit.
Remembrance Celebration of the Word

EYFS and KS1 Celebration of the Word- Harvest Festival

Nursery children have been beginning their prayer journey by learning our school prayer. They learned how to make the sign of the cross and are beginning to join in with the words to our school prayer.

Year 1 Class Worship – God Loves and Cares for us

Reception children reflecting on our learning about remembrance day with a 2 minute silence to pray for the fallen soldiers.

Reception chose to respond to our Welcome unit by taking a trip to the church to talk about why the different symbolic features we have been learning about are important for a baptism.

What is the ‘Statement to Live by’?
Each week, we focus on a different ‘statement to live by’, a set of statements rooted in nine guiding principles which support the distinctive nature of Catholic schools. The statements make the Catholic values of the school explicit, promote a positive and caring Christian ethos that is understood and communicated to everyone, promote emotional literacy and contribute towards community cohesion and the common good. They ensure that children and young people are given opportunities to:
· Hear the Christian story and encounter the person of Jesus,
· Understand their uniqueness as made in the image and likeness of God,
· Experience a sense of belonging within a range of communities, including the local Eucharistic community,
· Know, appreciate and understand the importance of social justice,
· Know that our limitations are also opportunities for growth,
· Understand the connection between knowledge and living,
· Know that everything has the opportunity to reveal God’s presence to us, i.e. to see the divine in the ordinary,
· Forgive and be forgiven, to reconcile and be reconciled,
· Experience fun, humour, imagination, creativity, play and excitement in life.
Each week in our achievement assembly we introduce a different statement such as ‘I try to be just and fair’. The week’s statement is displayed prominently in every classroom and around the school. Children are encouraged to think about the and reflect on statement throughout the week.
Statement 1 – We are all special.
Statement 20 – I try to appreciate the beauty and the wonder in the world around me.
